Around the world….

Traveling around the world is a dream for so many people. Some people are fortunate enough to achieve this dream, while some of us dream through films, TV shows, documentaries, surfing the web, looking through old photos, or anyway that fulfills our passions.

I fell in love with teaching, and actually fell into this career while studying in San Sebastian, Basque Country. This experience opened my eyes to so much, there’s so much life outside what we learned from home. From then, my life has led me onto many paths, and I am so incredibly happy that a lot of those paths involved traveling. Since the travel bug has already bitten me, I get my “fix” daily through interactions with so many incredible students from all around the world. I currently “travel” everyday to Austria, Brazil, China, Japan, Korea, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Venezuela (to name a few). Each day I get a taste of their life and culture, and this diversity is so exciting that I wanted to bring it to the blog and invite everyone to share a little something of their country, city, culture, life, anything to allow the rest of us to journey outside of reality for a minute. So…

What is something exciting, unique, or interesting from your country, city, culture, or life? What are your favorite holidays or traditions, foods, or past-times? Feel free to share everything and anything that makes you happy in your life and homeland. I am excited to see where this adventure will lead me and the readers…and what we will learn <3

I live in San Diego – USA and I have lived in Sydney – Australia and Santos – Brazil before. If i have to put in a few words what I like about those cities is Australia’s wilderness and Brazilian people.
It was in Australia where I learned about what’s now my favorite holiday: St Patrick’s Day. Everyone is just up for a good time that day.
One thing from home (Santos-Brazil) I like a lot is how people interact in bars over there. Is very common to just sit on cheap plastic chairs, share big bottles of beer over cheap tables and just talk all night long with friends with not a lot of distractions like TVs, loud music etc. That way you really get to know your friends and reach deeper levels of conversations.
The one thing that foreigns could like about Brazil is how late bars and nightclubs close. There’s no last call really. In major cities like Sao Paulo there are places opening at 2-3am till the last standing costumer. And of course: alcohol never stops being sold.
The interaction with the beach is also very special in Brazil. Wearing the minimal clothing necessary, the picture is very skinful and with food and beverage tends and carts being legal you can go to the beach with nothing but money and get just about everything you need: chairs, umbrellas, beach food, sodas, beers, magazines etc. the market is endless.
I’m lucky I get to have all that in my memories, and still make new ones over those places.

I live in San Diego. I love living here because there is so much to do and see within the county. We have beaches, mountains, museums, theme parks and so much more. I live in more of what would be considered the “country” by some people’s standards, but I think it’s more or less a suburban neighborhood. To get anywhere in San Diego, at the most it can be up to an hour commute (which is one good playlist of music in the car!). I feel that San Diego has so many diverse areas, it has something to offer everyone. There are parts of the “downtown” area that have many restaurants and bars if you enjoy a fun night life. The historic Balboa park and all of its museums are a great place to experience different types of art and science. Of course there is the famous San Diego Zoo if animals interest you. Traveling to any of the coastal towns is always fun as a weekend activity. Most days of the year it’s beautiful weather here. I love sunny days. Some people complain that we don’t get all four seasons here in SoCal (southern California) but I’m just fine with that. I love great weather and having the option to do so many amazing and different things in the place I call home. 🙂

That is so beautifully said, Holly. San Diego is magical, and I hope this inspires others to come visit! 🙂
